Ingredients
- 300 g all-purpose flour
- 7 g instant yeast
- 250 ml warm water
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 120 ml honey
- 50 g walnuts
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 500 ml vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Steps
- Mix flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and warm water into a very sticky wet batter (wetter than dough).
- Beat vigorously 3 minutes, cover and let rise 1.5 hours until bubbly and doubled.
- Heat oil to 175°C.
- Using two wet spoons or wet hands, drop walnut-sized balls of batter into the hot oil — they will puff up and turn themselves over.
- Fry 3-4 minutes total, turning once, until deep golden brown all over and cooked through.
- Drain on paper towels.
- Warm honey with lemon juice and cinnamon.
- Drizzle generously over the hot loukoumades, scatter crushed walnuts on top, serve immediately while still crispy.
